Sacking of Boakye Agyarko: I feel vindicated – Alhassan Suhuyini

Hon MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini says the sacking of former Minister for Energy, Boakye Agyarko by the President on Monday makes him feel vindicated.

During the vetting of the then Minister-designate, the MP raised questions seeking to know the involvement or otherwise of the nominee, a former Vice President of the Bank of New York in the scandal that rocked the Bank of New York in 2007 of which some of the Banks officials were prosecuted. His questioned was however overruled by the Chairman of the Appointments Committee.

Speaking exclusively to this blog, Hon Alhassan Suhuyini noted that the sacking of the former Minister and the issues surrounding it makes him feel vindicated about his position during the vetting in January 2017.

“I do, even though what has caused his dismissal may not directly be related to the specific question bothering on his integrity as a worker of the Bank of New York”, the outspoken lawmaker answered to the question of whether he feels vindicated or not.

“All I wanted to do was to get him (the nominee) to assure the nation that he played no part in the fraudulent deals the Bank did with that Oil and Gas Company in Russia”, he explained further.

Alhassan Suhuyini came under a lot of criticisms from MPs from the majority side on the Committee for daring to ask the then Minister designate questions regarding his involvement or otherwise in that Bank of New York scandal. His question was overruled leading to him getting offended and accusing the Chairman of the Committee of being unfair to him, a statement he later apologized for. WhatsApp Image 2018-08-10 at 10.59.24 AM
